Viewers comment on him with thousands of mentions per day
TikTok is South Korea’s answer to Snapchat and the second most popular video-sharing app in the world, after Facebook.
Called “you,” the app invites users to play with a camera to create silly, short videos, and upload them to social media. While it originated in South Korea, it’s quickly caught on in North America and Europe.
A format this simple has been enticing many young people.
A niche trend
The most popular voice on TikTok is 14-year-old Moises Almendrala — born Mujey Mkandawire — an incredibly squeaky voice that has proven very influential with his followers.
He made his first video on TikTok on November 16, and, as of January 11, has received over 83 million mentions across his 10,000+ clips on the app, and more than 2.5 million subscribers.
Mujey raps, playfully jumps up and down, and pretty much just talks non-stop, which means that his videos, on average, are watched by hundreds of thousands of users each day.
Because users can’t mute Moise’s name, view his videos without the sound and create multiple videos, he often gets mentioned in posts on other accounts.
