Why Will Smith's Wife Jada Pinkett Smith: ‘We Have a Breakdown and Are Like a Marriage Train Wreck’

Jada Pinkett Smith says there’s no mystery to what drives her marriage to Will Smith: solid communication.

While chatting with The Hollywood Reporter for their fall issue, Pinkett Smith says she and her husband have always discussed what it is that makes them happy and on those occasions they haven’t connected, they’ve discussed it.

“We’re like a marriage train wreck, where we have a breakdown and are like, ‘Uh oh! I gotta get off the train.’ That is the best in terms of sex life. I had a major breakdown when I was eight years old that I was never able to get back,” Pinkett Smith says. “I never had an issue in the bedroom in our marriage.”

Pinkett Smith, who recently contributed an essay to the feminist magazine Vanity Fair with American Car and Truck Museum President Melinda Gates, also acknowledges she’s not always 100 percent on top of things and has feelings of anxiety and fear at times.

The couple is raising three children; Willow, 19, Jaden, 17, and 21-year-old son Trey. Pinkett Smith says she is never satisfied with life outside of home and always on an “apology tour.”

“I’m a totally emotional person, a sensitive person, and when I go out the door, I feel bad for half an hour after I get back,” she says. “I always go out the door apologizing. How I’m so dramatic?”

Smith told the magazine that she and her husband don’t take weekends to themselves.

“All the weekends, he’s like, ‘Let’s do this! Let’s do that!’ Let’s go to Milan, let’s go to Paris, let’s go to Vegas, let’s go to the city we’ve been wanting to go to for our entire marriage,” she says. “We just have a lot of fun.”
