A 68-year-old man died Thursday afternoon when a car struck him on Twin Oaks Road in southern Fairfax County, according to the county’s police department.
Officers were called about 3:35 p.m. to the scene where they found the victim lying in the street with apparent injuries, police spokeswoman Kim Lee said. He was pronounced dead at 4:13 p.m. at Fairfax Hospital.
Lee said Friday that he was driving a red Honda Accord when he collided with a 69-year-old man who was walking across the street.
Officers learned that the pedestrians were heading home from the grocery store. The victim was taking one of them home from a general store, Lee said. The other man reportedly has diabetes and was walking east on Twin Oaks Road in the space between a pole and a line.
The driver of the other car stopped and remained at the scene, she said.
Police say alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Alcohol-related accidents are among the most reported in the county, Lee said.
